Hammer Films Bring Woman In Black To Big Screen

Spooky West End thriller The Woman In Black is to get it’s big screen debut thanks to Hammer Films who have announced that they will produce it as a feature.

The original novel by Susan Hill follows Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who’s sent to deal with a deceased clients paperwork. But staying in the client’s remote house drags up some terrible secrets.

It’s a real ghost story and it’s chilling atmosphere causes patrons to jump out of their seats at the Fortune theatre where the stage production of the book is still playing. Stardust scribe Jane Goldman will pen the screenplay and Eden Lake’s James Watkins will direct but no word on casting just yet.

Hammer President and CEO Simon Oakes commented on the project, “’The Woman in Black’ is an iconic British horror story, and so makes a perfect match for Hammer. Jane Goldman has written a terrific screenplay and with James Watkins at the helm, we feel that this feature adaptation of Susan Hill’s classic novel will be both dynamic and terrifying.”
